The train can develop a maximum speed of 120 kmph and has 167 seats and standing room for 175 passengers. It has four pairs of double doors, two ramps for wheelchairs and a section for bicycles. The train is under video surveillance.
It will be travelling between Zagreb and Varazdin via Zabok, a line along which around two million passengers travel every year.
Koncar - Electric Vehicles has been making for HZ Passenger Transport 32 electric trains, 16 of which are intended for commuter transport and 16 for regional transport, as well as 12 trains with an electro-diesel locomotive.
The total value of the project is HRK 1.63 billion.
So far, 10 electric trains for regional and 8 electric trains for commuter transport have been delivered.
Travelling aboard the train bound for Varazdin today were also Transport Minister Oleg Butkovic and the chief executives of HZ Passenger Transport and Koncar - Electric Vehicles, Drazen Ratkovic and Darinko Bago respectively.
Answering reporters' questions, Butkovic said that even though the number of passengers and the volume of cargo transported by rail was falling, major infrastructure projects would be launched mostly in the railway sector.
Debts worth EUR 1.1 billion in the transport sector will be due for payment this year, and until 2020 EUR 5.5 billion will have to be repaid, mostly in the road sector. "Strong restructuring in all road operators and in the railway sector will be our priority," said Butkovic.
As for the possible introduction of road toll stickers, Butkovic said that the road operator HAC would take a EUR 500,000 loan for a study that would provide an answer as to the company's restructuring as well as to the feasibility of road toll stickers.
Whether road toll stickers will be introduced will be known in a few months, said the minister.
