Employment Service figures show 285,468 unemployed in Dec 2015

ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - At the end of 2015 there were 285,468 people unemployed in Croatia, which was 0.3% more than in November while 9.9% lower on the year, the latest figures released by the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) released on Monday indicate.
At the end of December last year there were 285,468 people registered as unemployed, which is 0.3% higher or 811 people more than in November. In comparison to December 2014, that was 9.9% lower or 31,295 less people unemployed, HZZ reported.

December is the fourth consecutive month to record growing unemployment on the month following the end of the tourism season. Daily figures indicate that unemployment is continuing to grow in January. On Monday, there were 290,574 people unemployed and 7,317 vacancies.

HZZ figures indicate that 26,008 people were struck from the unemployment register in December, which is 9.6% more than in December 2014. Of that number, 16,585 found jobs while 9,423 were struck off the list for various other reasons.
 
December, however, saw 26,819 newly unemployed or 4.7% less than in December 2014. Of that number 73.6% or 19,748 were registered after losing their jobs, while 3.5% or 927 were school leavers.

Around 51,016 people were eligible in December for unemployment allowance, which is 17.9% of the total number of those unemployed or 16% less than those eligible in December 2014.

Of the total number of the unemployed, 54.8% (156,337) were women and 45.2% (129,131) were men. The share of unemployed women in comparison to December 2014 increased, while the number of unemployed men was lower by 0.9% points. 

People with secondary school qualifications make up for the majority (61.1%) of the total unemployed, while one in four unemployed persons (25.9%) only have primary education. The percentage of unemployed people with a university degree is 13%.
