The results of the poll were carried by the Russia Beyond the Headlines online broadcaster on Friday.
Switzerland won the National Geographic Traveler Award 2015 as the best ski destination for Russian readers, New Zealand was voted the best adventure tourism, while Ethiopia was declared the most exotic destination. Azerbaijan won the award as the discovery of the year.
Over 240,000 readers participated in the online opinion poll conducted for six months.
The award for Croatia was presented to the head of the Moscow office of the Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ), Rajko Ruzicka.
