More than 400,000 migrants pass through Croatia since start of crisis

SLAVONSKI BROD, Nov 16 (Hina) - A total of 4,278 migrants have entered Croatia by 1800 hrs Monday and since the start of the crisis in mid-September 401,226 of them have passed through Croatia, the Croatian Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Currently 3,286 persons are staying in the winter reception and transit centre in Slavonski Brod and more migrants are expected to come from Serbia, the ministry said on its website.

"A large share of migrants have some kind of identification document on their person. Those without identification documents have a confirmation on their registration in some other country they passed through  -- Greece, Macedonia, Serbia," spokeswoman for the Croatian Interior Ministry Helena Biocic told a regular news conference held in the refugee transit centre in Slavonski Brod.

Biocic also commented on assessments that the refugee wave could be sized down with the arrival of winter.

"According to these numbers we cannot conclude that the number of refugees entering Croatia is reducing -- and that number is between 7,000 and 9,000 per day. Indications show that the number would stay the same and today we expect between 6,000 and 7,000 refugees to enter Croatia," Biocic said.

The arrival and departure of refugees from the transit centre in Slavonski Brod is proceeding without incidents.
