Indian hemp allowed in Croatia for medicinal purposes as of Oct 15

ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - The use of Indian hemp for medicinal purposes will be allowed in Croatia as of October 15 when the Health Ministry's rules governing its use by patients suffering from multiple sclerosis, cancer, epilepsy and AIDS enter into force.

The rules set a legal framework for the import of hemp-based medicines into Croatia, requiring that medicines containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), dronabinol and nabilone may only be dispensed by pharmacies on prescription.

Such drugs will be prescribed by selected general practitioners on the recommendation of medical specialists in neurology, oncology, radiotherapy, infectology and neuropediatrics.

THC-containing medicines may be prescribed in amounts necessary for up to 30 days of treatment and the total amount of the prescribed THC content may not exceed 0.75 grams.
