Less unemployed this July y-o-y

ZAGREB, Aug 10 (Hina) - At the end of July, the Croatian Employment Bureau (HZZ) had 257,994 people registered as unemployed and in comparison with June the number of the unemployed decreased by 0.8% or 2,079 people and compared with July 2014 the the number of unemployed went down by 12.9% or 38,100 persons, HZZ reported on Monday.

July is the fifth consecutive month in which the number of unemployed fell on the month.

According to HZZ daily figures, the current number of the unemployed on Monday was 257,920 with 7,152 available vacancies.

In July 20,066 people found jobs, 86.3% with 17,312 people signing working contracts.

During July, a total of 27,641 new persons registered with the employment bureau as jobless, which is 2.4% more compared to July 2014. Of that number, 14,324 came directly to the employment bureau after their work contracts were terminated (51.8%), 8,360 were school leavers (30.2%) and 4,414 who were inactive (16%).

Of the total number of the unemployed, 54.6% (140,952) were women and 45.4% (117,042) were men. Compared to the same month last year the share of unemployed women increased and the share of unemployed men went down by 1.2 percentage points.

With reference to the age structure, 22.4% were young people aged between 25 and 34 while 22.1% were aged 45 to 54.

The number of people eligible for the dole was reduced on the year by 15.8% which meant that 40,848 received some form of an unemployment allowance.
