Q1 tourism revenue up 14% on the year

ZAGREB, July 10 (Hina) - Tourism revenue for the first three months of this year amounted to 339.7 million euro, which is an increase of 41.2 million euro or 13.8% compared to the same period last year and a 10.4% increase compared to Q1 of the record year of 2008, the Tourism Ministry said on Friday citing data from the Croatian National Bank (HNB).

The ministry explained that revenue from private travel grew by 35.1 million euro or 12.9% to 305.2 million euro. The highest growth on the year was recorded in business travel, which recorded a rise of 21.9% from 28.3 million euro to 34.5 million euro.

The share of tourism revenue in Gross Domestic Product in Q1 went up by 3.5% year on year.

Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said he was pleased with these figures because they showed that the tourism sector in the country was getting stronger and Croatia was becoming a more competitive destination globally.
