Bicycle police start patrolling Split

SPLIT, July 2 (Hina) - The first three police officers-bike riders started patrolling the biggest Croatian Adriatic city of Split on Thursday with bicycle patrolling to continue throughout the tourist as part of a pilot project launched by the city authorities.

This model of police patrols has already been introduced in some other police precincts in the country with the aim of improving the efficiency of supervising pedestrian zones.

The bike-riding police will also provide foreigners with information leaflets in 11 languages.

In the northern Adriatic Croatian region, several police officers from Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Slovenia have been engaged to help their fellow nationals in need during the ongoing summer season.

The project of foreign police assistance along Croatia's coast in summer was launched in 2007.
