Croatian teen tennis star Konjuh wins her 1st WTA title

ZAGREB, June 15 (Hina) - Croatian Ana Konjuh defeated Monica Niculescu (Romania) 1-6 6-4 6-2 in the Nottingham Open Women's Singles Final on Monday, and thus this 17-year-old Dubrovnik-born tennis player has won her first WTA title.

The final was moved to Monday after rain interrupted play over the weekend. Konjuh had to win two matches in one day on Sunday to make it through to the final. After overcoming Sachia Vickery 6-2, 6-2 in the delayed quarterfinal, the Croatian beat No. 5 seed Alison Riske 6-4, 6-3.

In January 2013, Konjuh won singles and doubles events at the 2013 Australian Open, and became the number 1 junior in the world. In September 2013, Konjuh won the singles event at the 2013 US Open, her second singles junior Grand Slam. Despite being allowed to continue playing junior tournaments for two more years, Konjuh decided, that in 2014, she will only compete in professional events.
