Parliament speaker vows Croatia's support to Montenegro on EU, NATO path

PODGORICA, June 4 (Hina) - Croatia and Montenegro are friends and good neighbours and have the prospect of a common European future, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko said in Podgorica on Wednesday, with Leko vowing Croatia's assistance to Montenegro in Euro-Atlantic integration.

"Montenegro has already made a big step forward in the achievement of foreign policy goals," Leko said, adding that Croatia was a committed friend and partner to Montenegro in its bid to join the European Union and NATO.

The Montenegrin government said in a press release that Leko underscored Croatia's commitment to help Montenegro with its experience so that it could accomplish its integration objectives as swiftly as possible.

"Leko and Djukanovic jointly assessed that the two states have excellent cooperation in numerous areas such as the judiciary, internal affairs, science and education," the press release said.

Djukanovic underlined the importance of regional cooperation in dealing with the economic lagging behind. The two officials concluded that the two countries would continue to intensify economic cooperation to mutual interest.

On Thursday, Leko is to hold talks with Parliament Speaker Ranko Krivokapic, Culture Minister Pavle Goranovic, and the head of the Croatian National Council in Montenegro, Zvonimir Denkovic.
