Germany attracts Croatian tourists through tradition and customs

ZAGREB, May 19 (Hina) - Tradition and customs is the main theme to promote Germany's tourism this year in an effort to attract domestic and foreign tourists to destinations in that country, including Croatians who have marked a constant growth of travelling to Germany over the past few years and last year there were 14.6% more compared with the year before.

At a presentation of Germany's tourism offer and trends in Zagreb on Tuesday, Tijana Djuricic of the German Tourism Board's PR Regional Belgrade office underscored that that growth was the result of 770,000 Croatian tourist visits to Germany in 2014, by which Croatia has confirmed its position as the country from which the most tourists in the region travel to Germany. The second largest number of tourists in 2014 were from Romania with 601,000 visits. There were also 153,000 from Serbia, which was an increase of 1.3% on the year.

The figures show that Germany is a favourite destination for Croatian tourists, ahead of Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Austria. Croatians spend on average more than eight nights in Germany, spending around 64 euros a day or a total of 505 euros per trip.

Germany's Charges d'Affaires in Zagreb Valentin Gescher said that Croatia was interesting for Germans for vacation but so was Germany for Croatians and that more Croatians were going to Germany simply for 'tourism' rather than just to visit relatives and friends as they once used to.
