Slovenia to discuss Croatia's intention to explore for oil and gas in Adriatic

LJUBLJANA, March 16 (Hina) - Slovenia's Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning on Monday confirmed that it had received documentation from the Croatian ministry about the possible cross-border impact on the environment of Croatia's intention to exploit hydrocarbons from the Adriatic and has invited all those interested to participate in a public debate of Croatia's environmental impact study.

Slovenia's Green activists have already expressed fear of the possible impact of oil and gas drilling on fishing, tourism and the environment.

Nina Strovs of the Slovenian branch of Greenpeace, after reading the documentation released on the Slovenian ministry's web site, said that Croatia's study dedicated only half a page to possible ecological incidents and that an environmental disaster would occur in case of an oil spill.
