Average Croat mostly concerned about unemployment - Eurobarometer

ZAGREB, Feb 13 (Hina) - The main concerns of the average Croatian are unemployment, the state of the economy and public debt and they fear that the worst is yet to come but believe that the European Union (EU) has the answers to come out of the crisis, the latest autumn Eurobarometer survey, released on Friday shows.

The EU enjoys a positive image among as many as 42% of Croatian respondents while 39% of respondents across the EU have a positive image of the Union, according to the survey which is published twice a year.

When it comes to main concerns, as many as 66% of those polled in Croatia cited unemployment as against 45% across the EU.

Also a third of Croatian respondents find the state of affairs in the economy to be worrisome and 30% point to the country's public debt as one of the main problems.

In the entire 28-strong EU, nearly one quarter, 24%, find joblessness as one of the main concerns.

Also, 18% of those polled across the EU consider immigration as the main concern, while in Croatia, only 2% of those polled think this is a major problem.

When it comes to the question whether the EU has taken the right direction to come out of the crisis, every second Croatian respondent (51%) has answered in the affirmative, while the optimism about the EU future across the bloc has been expressed by 46% of respondents.

A mere 18% of the Croatians do not believe that the EU is on the right track.
