Croatia to provide EUR 40,000 to WHO for Ebola-hit W. Africa

ZAGREB, Oct 30 (Hina) - The Croatian government will disburse 300,000 kuna in humanitarian aid for western African areas hit by the outbreak of the Ebola virus, according to a decision adopted by the Cabinet of Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Thursday.

The funds, which will be collected from taxes on games of chance, will be forwarded to the World Health Organisation.

Ebola has claimed the lives of 4,000 people so far, mostly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone where the number of infected patients has been put at over 7,500.

Deputy Foreign Minister Josko Klisovic recalled that the United Nations and the WHO regard the Ebola outbreak as the biggest peace-time threat.

Health Minister Sinisa Varga reiterated that Croatia was fully prepared for battling any contagious disease, including Ebola.
