ZAGREB, Dec 25 (Hina) - Croatia achieved a historic goal in 2013 by
joining the European Union but soon realised that Brussels would not
allow a newcomer to violate the common rules and that, despite the
long accession negotiations, there was still hard work ahead in
applying the strict political, legal and economic standards of the
union it had aspired to since gaining independence in 1991.
