Josipovic believes that Constitution will need thorough review in future

DRNIS, Dec 16 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has called for thorough and well-prepared constitutional changes, adding that looking at the Constitution as a whole, currently, it seems to him that Constitution has entered "a state of imbalance" with some segments being too much under-regulated and some others too much over-regulated, which is why he predicts that the time will show the need for a thorough review of the Constitution.

This statement was given by President Josipovic on Monday when asked to comment on a statement by law professor Branko Smerdel on hastiness in the current procedure to amend the Constitution.

Josipovic recalled that under the constitution the head of state is one of those who can propose amending the Constitution and explained that he did not want to interfere with special initiative but that he gave some remarks and his opinion after a draft of the proposed amendments was sent into the parliamentary procedure.

Josipovic explained that some of his remarks were formulated as draft amendments and some did not take on such form.

My wish was to offer some improvements. I detected some deficiencies, and I find them serious deficiencies that will turn out to be shortcomings in the implementation of the Constitution, Josipovic said during his visit to the southern city of Drnis where he inaugurated works on the reconstruction of the town square.
