Kaufland invests EUR 75m in logistics centre near Zagreb

JASTREBARSKO, Nov 29 (Hina) - The Croatian subsidiary of the German retail chain Kaufland will build a new logistics centre worth EUR 75 million in the business zone near Jastrebarsko, 30 km southwest of Zagreb, which will employ about 300 people, reporters were told during the laying of the foundation stone on Friday.

The ceremony was attended by company and local officials as well as Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Branko Grcic and Environment and Nature Protection Minister Mihael Zmajlovic.

The investment is a big endeavour for Kaufland in Croatia, said Andreas Wendy, managing director of the Croatian subsidiary. He added that the German retail chain had invested hundreds of millions of euros in Croatia in 12 years and that its Croatian company employed about 3,000 people.

Grcic and Zmajlovic underlined the importance of the investment in the current crisis. Grcic said this was one of the first projects to be supported under the new investment stimulation law.

There are 23 companies operating in the business zone near Jastrebarsko, employing about 500 people.

Zagreb County Prefect Stjepan Kozic said that apart from Kaufland, two other major investments were under way in the county, one of EUR 150 million for the Pliva drugs company and one of EUR 100 million for an IKEA store.
