Detention requested for ex-Croatian Chamber of Commerce head

ZAGREB, Nov 13 (Hina) - Former Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) president Nadan Vidosevic was questioned on Wednesday at the anti-corruption office USKOK, which is investigating him for siphoning of at least HRK 35 million from HGK and has requested he be placed in custody.

USKOK also requested custody for Josipa Mladinov, head of HGK's financing and accounting, who was arrested yesterday.

USKOK is also investigating Vidosevic's chief-of-staff Zdenka Peternel, who is already in custody, Davor Komericki, who was released from custody on Tuesday, and Igor Premilovac, whose companies were used to siphon money from the HGK.

Vidosevic's attorney Drazen Delac would not say if his client had stated his defence or stood mute today.

USKOK suspects Vidosevic, Peternel and Mladinov of conspiracy to commit a crime and abuse of office, and Komericki and Premilovac of aiding and abetting.

USKOK contends that Vidosevic from 2006 to February 2011, in order to make illegal gain for himself and others at the HGK's expense, asked Peternel to sign documents on fictitious deals for the HGK and Mladinov to process fictitious payments, to which they agreed.

USKOK suspects that at least HRK 35 million was paid from the HGK's account into the accounts of a number of companies in Croatia, that Vidosevic and Peternel took at least HRK 31.5 million and Premilovac at least HRK 3.5 million in commission. Through Komericki, Premilovac handed part of at least HRK 31.5 million to Vidosevic and part to Peternel, who then handed most of the cut to Vidosevic.
