Doctors' union won't initial draft collective agreement

ZAGREB, Nov 13 (Hina) - The president of the doctors' union, Ivica Babic, has described as a shameful an offer of a draft collective agreement the Health Ministry submitted to the unions on Wednesday, saying he will not initial it tomorrow and that the doctors' strike continues.

The draft does not honour a part of what we have negotiated, we have been offered a shameful cost of labour, Babic told Hina, adding that an hour on call would be paid eight kuna net, while one hour of night shift overtime would be paid 38 kuna.

Babic said he would not sign that and announced new union actions as part of the doctors' strike, today in its 57th day.

Health Minister Rajko Ostojic said earlier today that "visible progress" had been achieved in the negotiations with the three striking unions, voicing hope that their representatives would initial a new collective agreement on Thursday.

Asked on Croatian Radio what the government was offering the unions in the draft collective agreement, he underscored records of overtime work for all health sector employees. "The government's position is clear: Work will be paid, idleness won't, and this refers to both doctors and all other health sector employees."
