Toy cars left outside Sisak city hall in protest against county prefect's Audi

SISAK, Nov 2 (Hina) - About 200 toy cars were left outside the city hall in Sisak on Saturday in protest against Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Marina Lovric Merzel as a message that the purchase of an official luxury Audi A6 was inappropriate for the prefect of one of Croatia's poorest counties.

The protest is the result of a discussion on the Internet. People are irritated by the purchase of a new car and by the prefect's explanation that it was bought at a favourable price, said Darko Bjelica, one of the organisers of the protest organised via Facebook

The motto of the protest was "Take your child's toy car and take to the Sisak-Moslavina County prefect. She loves them so much."

"Our prefect, in her third term in office, is turning out to be more and more arrogant. She is buying an expensive car now that Croatia, and especially our county, is on its knees. And now she appears as a benefactor because she allegedly saved the kindergarten in Kostajnica from closing," said writer Slavko Jendricko.

The one-hour protest, which passed peacefully, drew several hundred citizens and representatives of some political parties and associations as observers.

The county paid HRK 433,000 (approx. 57,000 euros) for the Audi.
