Employers slam lack of absence of HGK president's accountability

ZAGREB, Oct 22 (Hina) - The Croatian Employers Association (HUP) said on Tuesday it was unacceptable how easily Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) president Nadan Vidosevic avoided responsibility from suspicion of misuse of the money which employers had to set aside for HGK membership fees.

Employers are worried that such high amounts were siphoned from the HGK and that its leaders claim they knew nothing, and are even more shocked that the HGK has said only today that it will start behaving responsibly, a statement said.

If the disappearance of HRK 32 million could go unnoticed, the memberships are evidently too high and there is room to significantly reduce them if they will not be revoked, the statement added.

Employers are bitter and shocked by suspicions that money was siphoned from the HGK because they have been warning for years that membership should be voluntary and not imposed, the statement said, adding that the HGK's role should be re-examined and its real goals set.
