Croatian deputy PM holds talks with Iraqi industry and minerals minister

ZAGREB, Oct 9 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Branko Grcic on Wednesday held talks with an Iraqi delegation on a visit to Croatia, led by Industry and Minerals Minister Ahmed Naser Deli Al-Karbooli, who are expected to visit several Croatian companies to discuss cooperation.

Al-Karbooli told the press after the talks that the visit would be used to exploit concrete deals about the already agreed jobs such as the making of buses by the Croatian company Crobus for its Iraqi partner, as well as joint manufacturing of light arms in Iraq and joint production in the textile industry in Baghdad.

The Iraqis are interested in cooperation in the electricity sector and talks will also focus on possibilities for Croatian companies to draw up a geology map of Iraq, Iraqi Minister Al-Karbooli said, adding that interest also existed concerning cooperation in the education of Iraqi staff and in building infrastructure.

Over the next several days, the Iraqi delegation will visit, among others, Crobus, Djuro Djakovic, Munja, HS Produkt, Eurocable and Ziegler.

Grcic underlined the possibilities for Croatian companies in the reconstruction and modernisation of Iraq which was hit by political and economic crises.

Speaking about the Iraqi economic potential, Al-Karbooli underlined that Iraq was a country with extremely rich natural resources and that its budget for 2014 amounted to US$130 billion. He also stated an example that Iraq's annual economic trade with Iran amounted to $13 billion and with Turkey $11 billion.
