Croatian FM talks Martonyi's, Erjavec's absence at Dubrovnik forum

DUBROVNIK, Oct 3 (Hina) - Cooperation and talks are in both Croatia's and Hungary's interest in order to solve the latest situation in the INA-MOL case, Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic commented in Dubrovnik on Thursday on her Hungarian counterpart's absence at an energy forum.

"Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi cancelled his participation in the Croatia Forum based on a decision by the Hungarian government and it seems this was because Croatia issued a European Arrest Warrant" for Zsolt Hernadi, CEO of the Hungarian oil and gas company MOL, said Pusic.

"This is a court case that has lasted longer than this government's term, and this is in the hands of judicial bodies, now also within European judicial cooperation."

She went on to say that "this does not, should not nor must have anything to do with Croatian-Hungarian relations, not even with the negotiations between MOL and Croatia."

Although the Hungarian government decided not to send its foreign minister to the Dubrovnik forum because of the latest developments in the INA-MOL case, Pusic said this was not "to Croatia's detriment."

"I don't see why this should be to Croatia's detriment. The Hungarian side decided on that move, I wish it hadn't. Were it the other way round, I think our side would certainly like to attend," she said.

She added that Croatian Justice Minister Orsat Miljenic was attending a meeting of justice ministers in Hungary. "I think that's wholly appropriate."

Pusic is to see Martonyi in Montenegro on Friday at a strategic planning seminar. "Tomorrow we will talk about all topics. We won't be dealing with the issue of MOL-Croatia relations, but we will talk about the situation between Croatia and Hungary at this moment. I believe cooperation and talks are an absolute interest, as is dealing with a situation that has escalated more the necessary."

Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec also did not arrive in Dubrovnik, with media speculating that this was a boycott because of different interpretations of a decision on the role of the Bank for International Settlements in the Croatian-Slovenian dispute over Ljubljanska Banka.

Pusic said Erjavec did not arrive for personal reasons. "I was in contact with Erjavec a couple of days ago. He confirmed that he would attend and then sent a message that for family reasons, unfortunately, he could not come."
