Split Airport recording high daily turnover

SPLIT, Aug 10 (Hina) - Split Airport is recording a high turnover this Saturday again, with 117 planes from various countries scheduled to land by the end of the day and 24,500 passengers expected in arrivals and departures.

"Today alone we have planes from more than 55 world destinations and during the summer we have direct flights to 23 countries and 80 destinations," said airport executive Mate Melvan.

On the last Saturday in July, Split Airport recorded its biggest turnover with 25,269 passengers. Last Saturday, there were 24,619 passengers.

Melvan said the southern Adriatic airport would have more than 23,000 passengers per day throughout August and that in the first seven months of the year the passenger turnover was up 11.5 per cent on 2012, with 854,000 passengers in total.

The millionth passenger is expected on August 13, two weeks earlier than last year.

In July, Split Airport recorded 336,000 passengers, an increase of 14.6% and the first time that the monthly number of passengers surpassed 300,000.

Melvan said no Croatian airport ever had more than 300,000 passengers in a month, adding that Dubrovnik Airport followed with 15,000 passengers per day and Zagreb with 11,000.
