Peasant Party leader says agriculture minister should finally do something

ZAGREB, Aug 8 (Hina) - Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) president Branko Hrg said on Thursday that Agriculture Minister Tihomir Jakovina had not yielded results and that he should finally take some steps or say that he was not capable of doing his job.

Commenting on farmers' protests, Hrg told reporters "the HSS offered ideas and solutions which nobody wanted to hear."

As for farmers' talks at the Agriculture Ministry today, he said, "It's good that there is dialogue, and it will be even better if (the two sides) hear each other."

Farmers yesterday began protesting by parking tractors along roads in several continental counties. They demand that Jakovina resign, claiming he has done nothing for agriculture and farmers, the payment of incentives for 2012 in the amount paid in 2011, and a meeting with Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.
