France welcomes Croatia to EU

ZAGREB, June 28 (Hina) - France welcomes Croatia to the European Union, a country which since declaring independence in 1991 managed to rise up after the war, rebuild itself and embrace a European and democratic future, and which can now serve as an example and show the way to other countries in the region, the French Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

France congratulates Croatia on its EU accession and looks forward to close cooperation with this partner and friendly country in the service of creating a strong Europe, employment, stability and growth, the ministry said in a statement.

During the eight-year accession process, every Croatian government persistently carried out the adopted reforms which complied with EU requirements. France extended support to Croatia very early on its European path, strengthening bilateral dialogue which is now exceptional, in the service of the European ideal, the statement added.

In honour of Croatia's EU accession, French President Francois Hollande and Croatian President Ivo Josipovic will attend a parade of Croatian and French military units at Champs-Elysee on July 14. France's European Affairs Minister Thierry Repentin will attend the accession celebration in Zagreb on June 30.
