Phase II of e-business improvement programme launched

ZAGREB, June 19 (Hina) - Electronic business and e-commerce are important tools for companies, giving them a competitive advantage on the European and global markets, especially small and medium enterprises, it was said in Zagreb on Wednesday at the launch of phase II of the IPA project "E-business Competitiveness Improvement Programme".

The objective of the project is to enhance the competitiveness of Croatian SMEs through increased utilisation of e-commerce and e-business, said Vlatko Martinovic, the project leader from the Entrepreneurship and Crafts Ministry.

The ministry is implementing the project in cooperation with experts from Poland - the ECORYS, Coris Educa and Eurenca companies.

The 22-month project is worth EUR 1 million. The ministry is co-financing it with 15 per cent, while the European funds are non-returnable.

The project will create a strong network of connected institutions, resulting in a stimulating environment for SME development, said Minister Gordan Maras.

E-commerce in Croatia is below ten per cent. Only 17 per cent of Croats buy online, as against 43 per cent in the EU. Thirty-two per cent of companies in Croatia buy goods and services online and 24 per cent offer them.
