Ukrainian province, Karlovac County sign cooperation agreement

KARLOVAC, June 17 (Hina) - Representatives of chambers of commerce of Ukraine's Mykolaiv Oblast province and Croatia's Karlovac County signed an economic cooperation agreement in Karlovac on Monday and presented the geo-strategic and economic possibilities of their regions.

The agreement was signed by Sergey Khomenko of Mykolaiv Oblast's Regional Chamber of Trade and Industry and the president of the Karlovac County Chamber of Commerce, Zlatko Kuzman.

Khomenko said the regional chamber was a strong centre of Ukraine's economic ties with Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Kuzman said the Ukrainians had entered the European Union market by investing in Croatia's business zones.

Karlovac County and the Ukrainian Embassy deserve the credit for the successful ties between the county and the province over the past year, it was said.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation on a five-day visit to Croatia, Nikolenko Gennjadiy, said they were primarily interested in renewing cooperation with Adriadiesel to repair engines built in the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Station 30 years ago as well as because of their three shipyards.

The agreement signed today is aimed at improving trade and investments as well as at cooperation with the Karlovac College, he added.

Adriadiesel director Vladimir Hristov said that from a security point of view, it would be best if this company overhauled the nuclear plant's engines so that they could be operational for another 30 years.

He said the overhaul would bring about EUR 1 million revenue per year in the next few years, so there were a number of offers, but voiced confidence Adriadiesel would land the job. He said long term cooperation between the company and Black Sea shipyards was possible despite the difficulties of the latter.
