Tito was born in Kumrovec in 1892 and died in Ljubljana in 1980.
Admirers arrived in Kumrovec from Slovenia and other parts of the former Yugoslavia, most of them elderly people, although there were young people too who laid wreaths at Tito's monument.
Chinese Ambassador to Croatia Shen Zhifei also came to pay his respects.
Many Partisan songs were sung and it was announced that a New Communist Party would be founded. Members underlined former slogans such as "Give the factories back to the workers."
This year's celebration was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Anti-Fascist Council of the People's Liberation of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ) meeting in Jajce.
The president of the alliance of Josip Broz Tito societies of Croatia, Tomislav Badovinac, said that thanks to that 1943 meeting, the parts of Croatia annexed by Italy - Istria, Rijeka, Zadar and the islands - were returned to Croatia. He added that this year was also the 70th anniversary of two historic World War II battles - Neretva and Sutjeska.
