Croatia Airlines strike ends after 8 days

ZAGREB, May 21 (Hina) - An eight-day strike in Croatia Airlines ended on Tuesday after the cabin crew staff union reached an agreement with management on the union's demands, the airline said.

After eight days of strike and many cancelled flights, the airline's planes will resume flying according to the regular schedule on Wednesday with its own planes and crews.

Minor disruptions are possible only on early morning domestic flights.

Based on today's agreement, the union stopped the strike and agreed to continue negotiations on a new collective agreement.

"We agreed to stop the strike and to a nine per cent salary cut, which is less than management's initial demand," union representative Ivana Lojo told Hina.

The airline said it had managed to find an acceptable solution with the union regarding its members' material and non-material rights which did not jeopardise the envisaged restructuring programme.

The cabin crew staff union reached the agreement with management after the pilots' union did so yesterday, also agreeing to resume negotiations on a new collective agreement.

The renting of planes to which the airline had to resort because of the strike cost it HRK 7.5 million (approx. EUR 1 million).
