Croatian president receives NATO Military Committee chair

ZAGREB, April 30 (Hina) - President Ivo Josipovic on Tuesday received NATO Military Committee Chairman Knud Bartels, who was in an official visit to Croatia, and during the talks it was said that Croatia contributed to NATO's overall efforts and carried out its obligations within the ISAF and KFOR missions.

According to a statement from Josipovic's office, it was said that Croatia intended to continue with its involvement in NATO's peace support mission in Afghanistan, "Resolute Support", after 2014, primarily in the education and training of Afghan security forces.

Also stressed was Croatia's contribution to international peace and security within the European Union-led ATALANTA peace support mission and six UN-led peace missions.

It was also said that through its systematic activity, bilateral and multilateral initiatives and activities with neighbours and Southeast European countries, Croatia actively helped transformation processes and supported the future membership of all countries in the region in Euro-Atlantic structures.

General Bartels said NATO was successfully undergoing a transformation in line with long term development guidelines and that Croatia was an example of how to successfully implement NATO's "Smart Defence" initiative.
