Government to sell Cepin oil factory

ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - The government decided on Thursday to sell the Cepin oil factory to the Mambo company from Osijek, with Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak saying 81.48 per cent of the equity would be sold for one kuna and that the state would write off the factory's debt.

Mambo has the obligation to invest HRK 295 million in the factory to make it more competitive and keep at least 140 workers, while the remaining 70 will be provided for under a programme agreed to with the unions.

This opens new prospects for Cepin after 18 months of blockade because of a HRK 150 million debt and a four-month pause in production, said Vrdoljak.

The government sent to parliament a bill of amendments to the Waters Act allowing the exploitation of gravel and sand via concession contracts.

Agriculture Minister Tihomir Jakovina said the three-year exploitation ban was being lifted because of a shortage of gravel and the fact that HRK 500 million worth of gravel and sand had been imported from neighbouring countries over the past four years.
