"For the first time, our citizens will vote not only for a slate, as they have done in parliamentary elections, but will also have the chance to vote for a candidate on the slate for which they voted," Hrvatin said at a meeting in parliament with representatives of political parties and non-governmental organisations.
Political parties and groups of voters who collect 5,000 signatures can run in the EP election. The number of slates to run in the election will be known by midnight next Monday, after which the State Election Commission has 48 hours to release a list of valid slates.
The release of the slates marks the start of the election campaign which will last until midnight April 12, when the blackout period begins.
The slates will have to open a bank account for the promotion and notify the Commission. Hrvatin said every account would be checked.
