Josipovic, Pahor praise memorandum of understanding

ZAGREB, March 11 (Hina) - Presidents Ivo Josipovic of Croatia and Borut Pahor of Slovenia issued a joint statement on Monday highlighting their satisfaction with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Croatian and Slovenian governments earlier today, Josipovic's office said in a press release.

"We reiterate our firm belief, which we underlined at our first informal meeting in Salzburg, that this enables the ratification of Croatia's European Union Accession Treaty in the Slovenian Parliament," the statement said.

"We underline our determination to use Croatia's accession to the European Union on 1 July 2013 to deepen the all-round cooperation between our peoples and states in the context of a common European future. Our first official meeting in Zagreb shortly after the ratification of the accession treaty in the Slovenian Parliament will also contribute to that," the statement said.

Prime Ministers Zoran Milanovic of Croatia and Janez Jansa of Slovenia signed the memorandum to resolve the last outstanding issue between the two countries that was an obstacle to the treaty ratification in Ljubljana.

The Slovenian government will send a motion to parliament to begin ratification already this week, Jansa said, adding that ratification was expected to be completed by the end of the month.
