Croatian parliament speaker, Azerbaijani president meet

ZAGREB, March 11 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko held talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Zagreb on Monday, Leko's office said in a press release.

Leko said the two countries had excellent political relations but that economic relations were not sufficiently developed, voicing hope that progress would be made. He informed Aliyev that he would officially visit Azerbaijan this year at the invitation of Azerbaijan's parliament speaker.

Aliyev said this was his second visit to Croatia since 2005, which spoke of the strong political ties between the two countries. He voiced confidence that trade would be boosted after the signing of six bilateral agreements during this visit.

He said Azerbaijan was one of Croatia's chief oil suppliers and hoped that Croatia would join a gas pipeline project that would link Azerbaijan and the European Union.

Leko and Aliyev agreed that it is necessary to find a way to facilitate visa requirements for Azerbaijani citizens and that would have a positive impact on economic cooperation, the press release said.
