Aflatoxins in milk under control, say regional agriculture ministers

BELGRADE, March 5 (Hina) - Agriculture ministers from the region agreed in Belgrade on Tuesday that, following market repercussions caused by elevated levels of aflatoxins in milk, the situation was under control but that all states must step up the control of cattle fodder and raw milk production, for which they can use a laboratory in Croatia.

The ministers from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Bosnia's Serb entity agreed to meet again in Sarajevo in a month.

Serbian Minister Goran Knezevic told reporters the hygienic conditions in cattle fodder warehouses must be improved in every country of the region and that inspection teams must exchange information to avoid similar incidents that could endanger people's health.

The ministers accepted Croatian Minister Tihomir Jakovina's offer to have the quality of milk in the region examined at the Andrija Stampar Public Health Institute in Zagreb.
