Foreign minister confirms meeting with Slovenian counterpart next week

ZAGREB/SANTIAGO, Jan 26 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic confirmed on Saturday she would meet with her Slovenian counterpart Karl Erjavec in Brussels next week.

Pusic was in Santiago attending a summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

Speaking to the press on the fringes of the event, she said there had been speculation that her meeting with Erjavec would be postponed because of the internal situation in Slovenia and Croatian-Slovenian relations in general.

"That's not true, we confirmed it today. I spoke with my counterpart Erjavec today on the phone and we confirmed the meeting for next week."

Pusic said many proposals had been put forward and that the two countries were "very close to a solution now" to the Ljubljanska Banka issue.

"Let me say it again, clearly and unequivocally. Croatia is willing to withdraw the power of attorney to banks in the cases in court if we manage to agree on an alternative solution with the Slovenian side. Slovenian Foreign Minister Erjavec and I will meet in Brussels next week and are willing to talk until we define a possible solution."

The Slovenian Foreign Ministry too dismissed speculation that the Pusic-Erjavec meeting will not be held, saying on Friday there had been no changes to Erjavec's plan to meet with Pusic in Brussels next week during a meeting of European foreign ministers.
