TYSON

INDIANAPOLIS, 17. svibnja (Hina/UPI) - Državni tužitelji Indiane razgovaraju sa glavnim sucem o ponovnom suđenju optužbe protiv bivšeg apsolutnog prvaka svijeta Mikea Tysona. Razlog ovakvom preokretu je dokaz Tysonovih odvjetnika, u kojem se kaže da žena koja ga je optužila nakon što su njegovi odvjetnici otkrili da je žena koja je optužila Tysona zbog silovanja, već ranije okrivila o optužila have asked a judge to dismiss the claims by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson's lawyers that he deserves a new trial because the woman Tyson was convicted of raping had falsely accused a high school classmate of rape. In a petition, prosecutors argued that Tyson's lawyers knew about Desiree Washington's prior accusations before the trial. The Indiana Appeals Court recently ruled that Marion Superior Court Judge Patricia Gifford, who presided over Tyson's original trial, must consider Tyson's second motion for post-conviction relief, originally filed Feb. 26, 1993. According to that motion, in 1989 Washington falsely accused Wayne Walker, a Rhode Island classmate, of rape. Tyson was convicted in 1992 of raping Washington, an 18-year-old contestant in the Miss Black America beauty pageant in an Indianapolis hotel room in July, 1991. Gifford must also consider whether prosecutors withheld information from defense lawyers that could have helped Tyson's case. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8. The 27-year-old Tyson is serving a six-year sentence. He is expected to be released next May after serving roughly half of the sentence. Tyson was found guilty of rape along with two counts of criminal deviate conduct in the July 19, 1991, attack on Washington. Tyson was in Indianapolis at the time to participate in the opening ceremonies of the Indiana Black Expo. Čupi 05-17-94 12:04 ped= 172049 MET may 94 172049 MET may 94
