Spot crude palm oil prices have been running at a $30 premium over the forward positions owing to a shortage of freight space. However, on Thursday December crude palm oil traded at $580 a tonne after the market closed and sellers were unable to sustain an opening price of $590 against this business. "The tightness has gone out of the December position and sellers found no support above $580," said a trader. December crude palm oil closed with an offer of $580 a tonne, $12.50 down after trading at $577.50 a tonne cif. The remainder of the palm oil market was also easier following the release of lower than expected Malaysian export data for the first twenty days of December. Malaysian cargo surveyor, Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) put local exports during the first twenty days of December at 468,439 tonnes against 462,394 tonnes during the same period in November. Crude palm oil in the New Year was offered $5 to $7.50 lower while refined palm oil was $2.50 down. Coconut oil closed unchanged to $2.50 after Nov/Dec traded in a switch with Dec/Jan at a $30 premium. Palmkernel oil finished unchanged to $5 down and tradeless. Soft oils trade was slow with closing soy oil sellers 0.25 to 0.75 guilders down after Jan traded at 89.50 guilders. Dutch/EU rape oil finished 0.50 guilders down after Jan traded at 92.50 and 92.25 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Based on sellers' prices the premium for rape oil over soyoil was 0.50 to three guilders at the close, against 2.25 to three guilders on Thursday.
