Concern over a delayed shipment of crude palm oil (CPO) created a slight squeeze in nearby CPO during Tuesday which pushed sellers' prices up by as much as $12.50 a tonne. But by the close on Wednesday offers were $2.50 down after Jan traded at $560 a tonne cif. Delays in the loading of the 29,752-tonne Antea, following the rejection of tanks allocated to one charterer, was behind the squeeze. The Antea was due to start loading in Indonesia on Nov 22, but was rejected by one charterer whose allocated tanks were reported to be contaminated by a previous veg oil cargo. However, surveyors for two other charterers have given the vessels a clean bill of health and traders said it was now partly loaded. Traders said they had heard that surveyors had now also given the all clear on the remaining tanks, which have been cleaned again, but so far this has not been confirmed. The Antea was due to load a mixed cargo of 20,000 to 25,000 tonnes of palm oil, palmkernel oil and coconut oil. Its first loading port was in Indonesia, then Malaysia before returning to Indonesia to finish loading prior to sailing to Europe. News that Egypt had bought 25,000 tonnes of sunflower oil at $527 a tonne and 10,000 tonnes of palm oil at $546.75 a tonne both c and f Alexandria for delivery for first half January had little impact on the market. News of Pakistan's tender for 6,000 tonnes of RBD palm oil for shipment up to December 31 also had little impact. Traders reported a switch in CPO between Dec and Jan/Mar with a $15 spread. Refined palm oil sellers were $2.50 down at the close with no further business reported. Coconut oil closed $15 down to unchanged after Nov/Dec traded at $810 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil ended $5 up on a neglected market. Among soft oils Dutch soy oil closed unchanged to 0.50 guilders up after Feb/Mar traded at 90.50 guilders a 100 kilos while rape oil was 0.25 to one guilder higher. Dec rape oil traded at 93 and Feb/Mar at 95 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Based on sellers' prices, the premium for rape oil over soyoil was two to five guilders at the close against 2.50 to 4.25 guilders on Tuesday.
