USDA figures on Monday put soybean inspections at 38.9 million bushels against trade estimates of 25 to 30 million. Palm oil failed to hold its early gains during the afternoon. Earlier prices had firmed following gains in Asia on talk of Indonesia buying palm olein on the Malaysian market. However, traders said Indonesia had only bought 2,000 to 3,000 tonnes to cover a pre-book position in December. Coconut oil eased back towards the close despite continuing slow shipments from origin. "There are five vessels due in Europe in the coming week carrying coconut oil and at one stage buyers were $20 below the asking price," said a trader. At the close of business crude palm oil cif Europe was $2.50 to $5 up after Nov traded at $572.50 and $570, Dec at $560, $557.50 and $555 and Jan/Mar at $550 a tonne cif. Refined palm oil finished $7.50 to $10 up with no further business reported. Coconut oil closed $5 up to $10 down after Dec/Jan traded at $760 and $757.50 and Jan/Feb at $745.00 a tonne cif. Dutch rape oil was 0.25 to 1.50 guilders up after Feb/Apr traded at 95.50 guilders a 100 kilos. Soy oil finished 1.50 guilders and tradeless. Based on sellers' prices, the premium for rape oil over soy was 3.25 to 4.25 guilders at the close against 4.25 to 5.50 on Friday.
