Many players in Europe were absent owing to the Armistice Day holiday while markets in Malaysia and Singapore were closed for a local holiday. Only coconut oil finished on the upside with players trying to stabilise the market after volatile trading towards the end of last week. Prices jumped sharply on Thursday on fears over shipment shortfalls during November. On Friday traded prices fell by as much as $30 a tonne asmthe rise was sold into in a thin market. Coconut oil finished $5 to $20 up in a tradeless market. Palm oil trade was at a virtual standstill, and at the close only crude palm oil prices were quoted with sellers $2.50 down from Friday's close. Refined palm oil prices were not quoted in Europe on Monday. On a quiet soft oil market soy oil sellers were 1.50 guilders down after Dec traded at 86 guilders a 100 kilos while rape oil was 0.75 to one guilders lower. "Most people are reluctant to take fresh positions ahead of the USDA crop report due out on Tuesday," said a trader. Based on sellers prices, rape oil's premium over soy oil was running at 5.25 to 4.50 guilders against 4.50 guilders at Friday's close.
