Light origin selling kept prices under pressure throughout the day, dealers said, but bargain hunting by coffee roasters toward the lows provided solid support. But with much of Europe sidelined for All Saints' Day, business was fairly muted. Nearby December delivery rose 0.05 cent a lb on the day, to 117.25, having traded from 116.70 to 118.75. Second position March rose 0.35 cent, to 106.45, narrowing the nearby switch to 10.80 cents. The day's volume was light, at an estimated 4,026 lots. Futures took little notice of December options expiry at the close today, as December futures settled in between key strike prices at 115 and 120 cents. Technically, the market survived a bid to test near-term chart support in the 116.50-115.50 area basis December, sending a mildly constructive signal, dealers said. To the upside, resistance was noted at 120 and 123 cents. Looking to next week, traders expected the spotlight to be on the December-March spread, as speculators start to roll out of the spot month ahead of first notice day. "You might see some pressure against the Dec-March switch down the road," said one. "The nearby tightness in the market is keeping (Decemer) steady, so you could get it toward 123 before it comes in." 041112 MET nov 96
