Palm oil finished the session lower following the expected easier trend in the Far East after four days of rising prices. Traders said the palm oil market in the Far East was looking overbought and a downside correction had been expected. "Also, at the end of the day palm oil has to remain competitive with soft oils," said a trader. Export data released by Malaysian cargo surveyor Caleb Brett had little impact on the market. Caleb Brett put Malaysian palm oil exports at 729,626 tonnes during October against its September estimate of 671,612 tonnes. Earlier this week another Malaysian cargo surveyor, Societe Generale de Surveillance put end-October exports at 736,374. Crude palm oil cif Europe and most of the refined sector closed around $2.50 lower with no further business reported during the afternoon. Palm stearin closed $2.50 up. Coconut oil closed mixed with sellers $2.50 up to $5 down in a tradeless market while palmkernel oil was $2.50 to $5 higher after Nov/Dec traded at $700 a tonne cif. In soft oils soy oil closed one guilder lower in a tradeless market while rape oil was unchanged to one guilder down after Feb/Apr traded at 93.75 and 93.50 guilders. Based on sellers' prices rape oil's premium over soy oil at the close was 3.50 to four guilders against three to 3.75 guilders on Thursday.
