In early dealings, stops hit in the upper 10.70 cent range pressured March and May futures to last week's lows of 10.69 and 10.70, respectively. The trade continued to buy back contracts at the lows, lending firm support to the market. Locals pushed prices over unchanged. A dearth of physical news kept prices from making a substantial move higher. "We can't sell sugar of any consequence," a broker said. "Stocks are OK and internal prices are not too high." Dealers said the market is likely to remain in its recent range as it awaits offtake of at least 100,000 tonnes, or a short-covering rally by the funds around 11.00. March closed up 0.05 at 10.86, having ranged from 10.88 to 10.69. The deferred months settled unchanged to 0.04 lower.
