European veg oils end mostly higher, thin
LONDON, Oct 10 (Reuter) - Closing European vegetable oil
prices on Thursday were mostly higher with palm oil underpinned
by news earlier which could see Pakistan back in the market.
The State-run Ghee Corporation of Pakistan (GCP) said on
Thursday it was negotiating for a $5.0 million financing
facility with the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank to
import vegetable oils.
Rumours on the Malaysian market that Pakistan had already
secured as much as $10 million to buy 20,000-30,000 tonnes of
vegetable oil were denied by a GCP offical who said they could
have been started by speculators trying to move palm oil.
Far East traders estimate that Pakistan could buy between
10,000 to 11,000 tonnes of palm oil if the deal is confirmed,
but against forecasts of end-September Malaysian stocks of
around 905,000 tonnes this would be a "drop in the ocean",
European traders said.
However, trade was generally quiet ahead of the release on
Friday of the USDA crop report.
At the close of business crude palm oil was unchanged to
$7.50 up while refined palm oil was $2.50 to $5 higher with no
futher business reported during the afternoon.
Coconut oil attracted some dealer trading with Sep/Oct
fetching $740 and Dec/Jan and Jan/Feb $720 a tonne cif.
Closing sellers were unchanged to $2.50 up while palmkernel
oil was unchanged.
Soft oils closed slightly higher depsite the lower Chicago
opening with soy oil 0.75 to one guilders up after Nov/Jan
traded at 93 and Feb/Apr at 95 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
Dutch/EU rape oil finished 0.50 guilders up to unchanged on
a tradeless market.
