Dutch soy and rape oil closed as much as two guilders down following early losses on the Chicago market. Traders said the Chicago fell sharply on fund selling with forecasts of good crop weather in the U.S. Midwest and Monday's USDA report which showed an improvement in the crop condition acting as a catalyst. A brust of late short-covering and lower-level buying in Kuala Lumpur took palm oil futures off their lows of the day and triggered a recovery on the European market. Earlier bearish export figures and lower Chicago soybean futures had undermined the market. Malaysian cargo surveyor Caleb Brett put local September bulk palm oil exports at 671,612 tonnes after its August estimate of 715,550 tonnes. Dutch soy oil closed 1.50 to two guilders down after Oct traded at 90.50 and Feb/Apr at 94.50 and 95 guilders a 100 kg. Dutch/EU rape oil finished two guilders down after Nov/Jan fetched 97, Feb/Apr 99 and May/Jul 100 guilders a 100 kg fob ex-mill. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed $5 to $2.50 up while refined palm oil was unchanged to $2.50 higher. Coconut oil finished unchanged after Sep/Oct traded at $732.50 and $735 a tonne cif.
