"Buyers and sellers were about a guilder apart before Chicago opened, but when it came in lower buyers disappeared," said a trader. Palm oil prices were underpinned by talk in the Far East on Tuesday morning of Indonesian buying of palm products on the Malaysian market. "The Indonesian market is short and they have been buying to stabilise prices at home," said a trader. Traders said the Indonesian buying was hit-and-run. "They, Indonesia, came in on Monday and bought a few parcels and they have been doing the same today, but only when the price is right, if it goes up they disappear," said a trader. Dutch soy oil closed 0.75 to one guilder lower while rape oil was unchanged to 0.50 guilders down. Crude palm oil cif Europe finished the session $12.50 up while refined oils were $12.50 to $15 higher with no further business reported during the afternoon. Coconut oil attracted some buying interest during the afternoon with afloat trading on a number of vessels at $735 and Sep/Oct also at $735 a tonne cif.
