Traders pegged the next level of support at 73.90, the 40-day moving average, and then at the contract's recent low of 72.60. The previous level of support was 74.50. December finished 1.43 lower at 74.05 cents a lb, having ranged from 75.25 to 74.00. Spot-October ended off 1.60 at 72.88, while the back months finished 1.34 to 0.15 lower. Volume was estimated at only 7,000 lots. Market sources blamed weakness on continued sluggish demand, citing a series of slack weekly export sales reports which are not currently poised to amount to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's export target of 6.2 million bales, in 1996/97. 181114 MET sep 96
