However, most buyers remained on the sidelines. "Most people are happy just to watch the weather run in Chicago in the knowledge that it can't last much longer," said a trader. Soft oils finished with soy oil unchanged to one guilder down while rape oil was 0.50 to 0.75 guilder lower after Feb/Apr traded at 100 guilders a 100 kg fob ex-mill. Palm oil also came under pressure from Chicago, although the ball had started to roll earlier in the day on the back of nervous liquidation in the Far East. Traders said palm oil had started to look vulnerable towards the end of last week as fresh tenders from major buyers failed to materialise. "The market has been very speculative recently and was pushed too high too fast and eventually the buyers were frightened off," said a trader. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed between $12.50 and $15 down with the only additional trade reported during the afternoon when Sep fetched $547.50 a tonne cif Europe. Refined palm oil was quiet with RBD oil $7.50 down and olein $10 to $12.50 lower at close. In a tradeless lauric oil sector coconut and palmnkernel oil were both $5 down.
